My work is all about the natural world (particularly that found in Scotland). I use a diverse range of methods and styles to communicate - from careful observational drawings to woodland installations. I aim to connect people to an innate recognition of the natural world, to engender a strong sense of place, to foster an attachment to the local environment and to reawaken a sensitivity to our surroundings.
In these times of extreme human pressure on the planet it is ever more pressing to put nature first. As an artist I feel an increasing urgency to communicate this. My outdoor pieces have been the start of moving away from old traditional methods which seem less and less relevant in a time of ecological emergency.
I can see my practise moving further still into the landscape, expressing environmental concerns whilst holding on to that wonder and connection.
