I painted many studies of a barn owl I picked up dead on the side of the same road. This painting grew out of those. It dwells on the moment of death, the disintegration of the owls life and form, becoming the stars, pin-points of light in the dark sky, or the wet tarmac, the edge of the world, the side of the road, the line between our sealed world of the vehicle and the owl's world outside.
